Don't Lose Heart

This life is heartless and it's rarely just
Full of sad betrayals and misplaced trust
And it can suck your spirit just as dry as dust
And steal your soul if you let it

Oo every life contains its sorrows and pains
Its stormy weather and its rough terrains
You watch me wrestle with my length of chain
And smile so bravely as you tell me

Don't lose heart, Don't Lose Heart
Though it feels like yours will fall apart
Just remember when the road gets dark
I will always be beside you

Well I spent my life pursuing fortune and fame
Chasing rainbows in a shadow game
And I'm not sure what I've lost is worth the gain
Or why my soul remains so restless

You've seen me stumble, Lord you've seen me fall
You shared my trials and you've seen me crawl
And when I think that I could lose it all
You give me courage and you tell me

Don't lose heart, Don't Lose Heart
Though it feels like yours will fall apart
Just remember when the road gets dark
I will always be beside you

When the road gets rocky and the ride gets rough
And the best you've got to give ain't good enough
There will always be a place inside my love
Where you can find shelter, where you can find shelter

Oo every life contains it's sorrows and pains
It's stormy weather and it's rough terrains
You watch me wrestle with my length of chain
And smile so bravely as you tell me

Don't lose heart, Oh Don't Lose Heart
Though it feels like yours will fall apart
Just remember when the road gets dark
I will always be beside you

Well I will always be beside, beside you

Hearts And Crafts

Handing me a looking glass
You asked me who it was I saw
But if I was to answer you
You know I'd surely answer wrong

'Cause I've loved you too long
I've loved you too long

Turning halfway toward the sun
You asked me to become your shade
Buy why should I be made to run
At the end of the parade

Love is not that way
Love is not that way

Looking back now toward the start
You said you thought I'd lost my path
And I asked if you still considered love an art
And you said "No, I think it's more a craft"
And I just turned and laughed
I just had to turn and laugh

Mountains To The Sea

Well I spent two days traveling
The Mountains to the Sea
I knew the change would do me good
And set my spirit free
I spent two night in wondering
What it is you've done to me
Before an answer came I reached the sea

There I spent my days in wandering
The reaches and the reefs
And my soul becomes so quiet
I can hear my own beliefs
I sail out on the ocean
'Til I cannot see the land
And I wonder if you'll ever understand

Why a soul with so much heaven held
Should ever feel so damned
Why it's always so uncomfortable
To hold anothers hand
Why of late I feel myself a ship
Out to sea unmanned
I wonder if you'll ever understand

There are seagulls in the morning here
I watch them search and soar
As they dive to take the fishes that swim just
Just beyond the shore
Then they fly off in the distance
'Til they finally fade from view
Somehow they remind me so of you

There's so many things you need to learn
That I can never teach
And places in your troubled soul
That I may never reach
So I wander like an ebbing tide
Along this lonely beach
And cast my dreams like stones into the sea

Song For A Carpenter

Oh he makes his life as a carpenter
He works his hands in wood
And he lives the way his granddad
Might have liked and understood
He goes to work each morning
And he comes home every night
And the time that passes in between
He knows has been spent right

A child in South Ohio
A man in Northern Maine
He took his dream
To the end of the world
And he brought it home again

Here he met his sweet Rebeckah
Here he came to make his stand
In a house he built in the piney woods
Where the ocean meets the land

And it's hey-ho, steady as you go
Sing for the love of the land
Hey-ho, blessed is the home
Born of the carpenter's hand

Oh his hair is rough and curly
And his legs they reach the ground
And his eyes are full of living
And his back is broad and brown
And his heart is sure and stubborn
And his pride's too strong to bend
And somewhere in his life
He found the time to be my friend

And it's hey-ho, steady as you go
Sing for the love of the land
Hey-ho, blessed is the home
Born of the carpenter's hand

Oh he loves his sweet Rebeckah
He'll love her 'til his death
And she gave to him a bonny son
And they named the child Seth
And now they are a family
A community of three
Living in the piney woods
Where the soil meets the sea

And it's hey-ho, steady as you go
Sing for the love of the land
Hey-ho, blessed is the home
Born of the carpenter's hand
Born of the carpenter's hand

Democracy

There's a rumor that the president's dead
He had a tumor growing deep in his head
But it hasn't had the slightest effect on how he's doing his job
And there's these lessons that they teach you in school
That you'd better learn to play by the rules
Or at least make sure you never get caught
Now that's a dangerous thought

Oh!

They've got McDonald's in the USSR
Fries and burgers in the Kremlin's backyard
Now they're learning what Democracy means
Let's send them Calvin Klein jeans

Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?

Now there's people living out in the street
Going hungry with no shoes on their feet
While the government just twiddles it's thumbs
And spends more money on guns
And they keep on planning nuclear war
Tell me who is it they're planning it for
If not the men that keep their profits from hate
I swear it simply can't wait

Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?

And the business boys that don't seem to care
About the blood that fills Tieneman Square
They're so fearful that their checkbooks will bounce
If they should lose these accounts
And the wall that tore Berlin has come down
Can you hear, it's such a beautiful sound
Like it was written up above in the stars
Now we can sell them more cars

Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?
Is this what Democracy means?
